Built in 1924, this building was one of the most unique shopping and merchandising centers of its time. At its prime the building housed retail shop, jewelers, diamond cutters, gold smiths, and silver workers. Leading it to also be known as the Jewelers Building. With the rise of the shopping mall in the late 1970s, The Metropolitan stood little chance of survival. The building closed in 1979 and has been empty ever since.
